Front Forks Falcon 70. Advice please.
1. The oil seals, part no. 003018, at the top of the Fork Slider Tube are in a sorry state. Is there anywhere I can get new ones? How are they held in place? On my bike a circular aluminium ring has been araldited in place but this ring does not show on the parts list. Should it be there.
2. At the bottom of the Top Cover Sleeve there is a circular shroud which is removable which looks as though it was once chromium plated. It does not show as a separate item in the parts list. Does anyone supply new ones and how is it held in place?
Any information much appreciated.

seal etc
The seals have a metal surround which is a knock-on fit to the fork legs, the forklegs have concentric grooves turned on them to keep the seals in place,if you place a wooden or aluminium drift under them they can be tapped off.SEALS ARE AVAILABLE FROM.AMC CLASSIC SPARES 01462 811770 (ask for seals for G2 lightweight matchless, they are the same)The chrome embellishers were pressed on the shrouds and were not available as a separate part,JH

Front fork seals.
That's useful, John - would the same info regarding seals apply to Falcon 81 legs as well?

fitting ems a different matter
Hello guys
Whilst rebuilding the Cruiser 71 I also had advice from JH re these seals, and the good people at AMC spares knew exactly what to send me, Apparently they are NOS and when they're gone....... so I bought several pairs, I think they were around £7 a pair plus p&p.
I thought I was surely going to damage them when putting them on, but I made a generous tapered plastic bung which fits into the fork tube, greased the seal up and swiftly (with clean dry hands) pushed the new seal over the first bush. Success !
Now try getting it over the next one !
With the aid of my glamorous assistant, we eased it (slowly this time) carefully over some shim wrapped round the lower area of the bush to form a taper. Be sure to wind the new seal over the overlapping shim edge or you will shred it.
This second step takes a bit of patience.
Hope this helps DH

Front Forks
Hi Maurice, These embellishers can be knocked off, and you can get new ones from Gary Venning. I don't have a phone number for him, but I am sure someone will PM you it. Mike
UPDATE They are no longer available from Gary.

The end result
In case anyone is at the same stage of restoration as myself here are the conclusions of this thread.
Gary Venning does not have any fork shroud rim embellishers.
He does not have any tank badges but may have at a later date.
The phone number for him in this thread is wrong. I can provide the correct one by PM.
AMC Classic Spares provided the fork seals overnight for £8.88 including postage.
Bantam John provided the rim embellishers in a week for £40 (ouch) including postage.
Thank you all for your help on this.

Shroud chrome rim embellishers
Guys,
how did you get the old chrome Fork shroud rim embellishers off? Mine were in such a bad state that I had to emery the remains of the chrome off, and paint (silver) & clear lacquer them. it would be great to source the chrome ones (from Bantam John), but precious little use if I can't remove the originals!
Thanks,
Blair

removing embellishers
The embellihsers are a press fit on the shrouds,i have always removed them using an aluminium 1" x3/4"x 6" drift and a hammer, tapping them on opposite sides until they come off, some are easier than others ,but i have always got them off,it is easier if the shrouds are still attatched to the forks.JH

embellishers
Maurice if they are that loose i am surpised ,but a smear of ARALDITE (TWO PACK ADHESIVE) will stop them falling off, just hope you never have to remove them again.JH
