Original Rectifyer ??

Post  bill2b on Fri Feb 09, 2018 8:30 pm

Found this on my Plover, a lot different to the modern one that was on Mrs B's Plover.
Anyone any idea if this is an original fit jobby?
Wont be needing it as I am going 12v and Electronic ignition but was just interested.

Plover rectifier

Villiers or AMC engined Plover? For both designs the wet battery/rectifier wiring was an optional extra, Villiers used a Westinghouse pattern (which this is not), AMC used Wipac electrics. The wiring looks like a lash up job! Sandy

Hi Sandy, villiers engine. Your probably right about the lash up job, but its an old lash up job by the look of it. Cheers Bill

Pretty sure thats a Wipac rectifier which I think was fitted to the cruiser 80 and also later bantams, no doubt plenty of other bikes as well

Plover Rectifier

Same as the one on my '65 Falcon 87. Which will be fitted but bypassed using a Rex Caunt solid state one, same as my Bantam.

So it might have been a factory fit after all, it certainly looks like its been there since birth.

This was where mine was and will be going again when I've spruced it up.

No, the Light Cruiser and falcon 87 are AMC engined bikes. AMC used Wipac electrics, not Villiers.
