Merlin wheel hubs

Post  Chapmanad on Thu Dec 21, 2017 3:37 pm

I have a Merlin 51 and the cups and cones in the wheel hubs are a bit crunchy. Does anybody know whether new ones are available or, better still, whether a sealed ball race conversion is possible?

Regards,
Andy

Cup and cones

Post  piston 197 on Thu Dec 21, 2017 4:11 pm

Been debated on here many times ! no there is not a bearing size to replace cup and cones, the hub can be machined out to take the next nearest size metric bearing, but a new spindle with a fixed larger diameter distance piece has to be made in the metric size of the new bearings and wheel nuts made to suit .
Search topic cup and cone wheel bearings on top right side of this forum in searh box and previous post will be viewable

Thanks for the rapid response. I suspected that was the case.
