Falcon 87 - Nearly the final shopping list.

Post  colk2004 on Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:07 pm

I say nearly as I'm bound to find something I've forgot. I'm after a gearchange lever and kickstart lever with good chrome and decent splines for an AMC20T motor. The ones I currently have are pitted, rusted, chrome missing, with splines that will not grip anything. The kickstart lever has a monumental droop from corrosion and wear so both cannot be resurrected. Is there any other bike I can look to for better spares? Has anyone got a stash of them in their manroom/shed? Any ideas?

Compatability

Post  piston 197 on Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:45 pm

The gear change is common with other AMC bikes,Norton Dominator , post 1954, AJS and matchless Post 1956 and other FB and James AMC engined models, but they do come in several different lengths.
Kick start is same on 15T,17T,20T and 25T, also same spline as G2 Matchless and Model 14 AJS

Thanks John.

I keep an eye out for Falcon 87 stuff and most that have turned up have been as scabby as the ones I've got. I'll expand the search.

tatty k/starts

Gear lever will be easy enough to find, there are loads on Ebay, mostly listed as Norton Commando
e.g item No 391173969521 23.95p with free postage ( probably repro)
With the kickstart, do not worry about chrome, that can be re-done, it is finding one with decent splines that is the problem.

Levers

Post  dodgeyroger on Mon Dec 11, 2017 3:31 pm

Colin
I have various Kickstart and gear levers in my possesion all have come off 25T engines and the splines seem good in all of them. The chrome on most is awful, but that can be remeded. One of the gear levers has perfect chrome and one of the kickstarts id good but is missing the top ( swivel ) part. If You PM me you email I can send pics of all.

Thanks Roger. Hopefully the top of my bit of scrap would do, or I could convert on of the spare tops off the Bantam or MZ ones. I'm hoping to do the plating (nickel/zinc) myself which should be fun. Been a bit side tracked with the missus been ill, and the powder coaters losing half my bike but hopefully back on with it again ready for a bit of showing and a bit of riding next year.
