basic questions ,..please bear with me

Post  Wafflojufflo on Thu Nov 09, 2017 11:12 am

Hi
I have purchased a 56 Falcon in trials  trim,to have a bit of a play in local pre 65 trials, and would welcome any help/advce/feedback

197 Villiers 3spd engine

basic stuff first

1/   what fuel ratio mix is best,..is unleaded ok ?
2/    what gear box oil is best,..will be changed regularly,as it leaks lol Very Happy
3/   the chap I bought off, said it has a modern clutch fitted to help with trials,i dont think it currently has any oil at all,in the clutch/primary case,is this ok?
4/     best stuff to use on the chain ??
5/      any other advice,is most welcome to help me on my way

I know its not gonna be super competitive, and might struggle to get round  (as will I),..but just after a bit of fun
thanks in advance Mick

fuels and oils

Post  piston 197 on Thu Nov 09, 2017 11:45 am

I ran a Villiers engined trials FB for years and used
20/50 in the gearbox
33 to 1 fuel/oil mix in the tank , best petrol you can get with Silkolene two stroke oil
ATF ( automatic transmission fluid) in the clutch.

on the chain, anything you can get to stay on ! i used outdoor heavy duty gear lubricant spray, but it does make helluva mess!

Oil

Chain saw chain oil will stay on the chain, make no mistake about that!!

JH, what you think about using slideway oil on the chain?? It is tenacious, coolant resistant stuff, so i think it might be good for chains?? what you think??
