Many thanks John Mills

handle bars

Post  alan67 on Tue Nov 07, 2017 7:06 pm

Hi John have a look on ebay right now there is a set with welded stubs and levers all be it rusty, would need plating but at the mo £5 plus about £5 post i had a plover a few years ago and sold it to a guy but i kept pics just cheeked pics out and they look right with what i had on mine, if you go for them maybe worth asking if he has fixing bolts i seem to remember them being a strange tread.? Thanks for the reply Alan, the handlebars that are on the bike at the moment have been hand painted silver and I was thinking about having them rechromed if I couldn't locate a new set albeit a copy..

It will be Arden green, there were no colour options for the Plover 78 in 1957, any colour you liked as long as it was Arden green !

Many thanks for your prompt reply I have tried various Arden Green and they all slightly vary, you wouldn't happen to have the original factory BS code or whatever they used 60 years ago.
Appreciated John Mills

Arden green

Post  piston 197 on Wed Nov 15, 2017 12:18 pm

Yes i do the original ICI formula was P030 NH77

The cumulative formula for this was :-
P030 9903 221 gms
P030 9981 339gms
P030 9964 487gms
P030 9905 895gms
P030 9975 1009gms

Where gms is cumulative weight to 1 Litre ( well 1.009 Litres actually|) and the second number column is the base paint added to the mix to the next weight

Unfortunately this is all academic now as this system is now replaced by a RAL system, but you did ask what the code was 60 years ago, but i believe this was pre BS system ??

Many thanks JH it may as well be in Greek to me but hopefully a paint mixer will be able to decipher and get the corresponding RAL formula.

footrest fitment

Post  piston 197 on Sat Nov 18, 2017 7:14 pm

There are holes at the bottom of the body work, if you follow the curve of the rear mudguard around they are at the end of this, the exhaust hanger also fits to one of these holes, the one on the left hand side

Look at the photo on page 165 of Arthur Gent's book 'FB The Complete Story' which clearly shows the pillion footrests.

Hi John, it is a rear light switch, I have seen similar ones for sale though so pretty standard add on I think.
