James Colonel id?

Post  seipgam on Fri Nov 03, 2017 10:19 am

Hi,
I just joined the James MC forum but the age of the posts tell me it doesn't get a lot of traffic (?), so I'll ask the question here as well and see how I go.

Looking at purchasing a 1956 Colonel (I'm told) with a 1H engine.
Where do I locate the frame and engine numbers please, is the engine number just what's stamped on the serial plate?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Geoff.

The engine No is just what is on the name plate on the inner clutch case, best not to pay this too much attention, because if the inner clutch case has been replaced, so will the engine No.
The chassis No will be on the l/hand side of the headstock on w=swing arm James, either stamped into the frame, or on a separate plate riveted on to the same position ( this tends to rust the rivets and fall off)
Frame no should begin 56/k12/****

Thanks for the quick reply John.
I view the bike next week and your info will be most helpful.

Cheers Geoff.

Hi Alan,
1954 Kestrel 66 with the 13D engine.
I purchased it mostly restored but had to sort out a bit (with some help from this forum) to get it running right.

Slow as buggery but the most fun I've had on two wheels.

Geoff.
