falcon 67 oddities

Post  alan67 on Tue Oct 31, 2017 1:07 pm

Hi guys i have been a member of the club now for 2 or 3 years  but i,m a new boy to the forum, so please  bear with me, i restored a cruiser 80 with a little help from the club, and I have now found a falcon 67, its been sitting in a chicken shed in norfolk unused  since 1964, so I could use a little more help from you guys in the club . firstly the bike is in road form not trials, but it got its oddities, it has a villiers 8e 197cc with a decompression valve in the head ? it has an amal pre mono block carb, I understand it should have a villiers s24 ?, the headlight sits to far back in it mounts so the light switch sits right  under the speedo ? it looks like the arms on the forks are to short but having said that they look unmolested .the headlight has a unit that screws on top with wiring going in the back and also houses  the light switch and ampmeter ? can anyone tell me the length of the arms on the forks please,? my thoughts are maybe the forks have been changed from something like a merlin, kestrel, ect  well thats it for the moment if anyone can help i would be great full  regards Alan

Falcon 67

Post  piston 197 on Tue Oct 31, 2017 4:11 pm

Yes Alan the earlier forks off the 1949/51 Merlin and falcon had shorter arms and used a 6" Lucas h/light, later 1952-54 used the 575 ( 5 3/4") longer headlight and the brackets were longer, the trials and scrambles models used a pre-monobloc 276 carburettor on a long swan necked manifold.
Frame No would be useful Falcon 67 should have a UM or UUM pre fix.

I will send you a p.m with my Email address if you send me some pictures I may be able to give a more definitive opinion
