17T Gasket set

Post  FB vincent on Sun Oct 29, 2017 9:03 am

Absolutely nothing to do with me, but try ebay '160 AMC 172cc M17T 1958on ENGINE GASKET SET'.

I am sure there are other suppliers out there. Ancient gasket sets can suffer from shrinkage of the paper joints, so you might need to ensure that they are slightly damp before using.

Gaskets

I never knew that they shrank!! You are correct though, i had a gasket set just the other day of a very good make. but when i went to fit the primary case one, it was indeed too small!!

It was wide enough, but not long enough along the long axis..

Well, you live and learn..

I've managed to find five or so gasket sets for the 17T over the years including some old shop stock containing x10 cylinder base gaskets and x10 gear box end cover gaskets. Could barely use a single gasket from any of the sets due to shrinkage. I also bought a modern reproduction set and again none of them fitted but this time due to rubbish manufacturing quality. Ended up having to remake the gaskets myself using the cases as a pattern. 10 in the local seal shop for a metre of the correct thickness paper and a few quid for a set of gasket punches on ebay

If anyone has a good one that is spare, I can make a cad drawing and then laser out additional ones in appropriate gasket paper.

Kempton park jumble is coming up, gasket paper man is there.
