Another nice simple one. Falcon 87 Numberplate

Post  colk2004 on Mon Sep 04, 2017 2:46 pm

This is (I hope) the last missing bit of the Falcon 87 build. What should be covering up that gaping hole in the back of my 1964 Falcon87 mudguard. Is it something weird and wonderful or something a bit more generic that I can pickup easily?

Winding up for a completion by xmas (unless work gets in the way), as I've now located my missing petrol tank after 18 months in the wilderness of powder coaters, engineers, tank sealers, etc. The seat base is slowly being knocked into shape for covering, and the powder coater has finally done his bit on the back mudguard - 4 layers and a lot of sanding.

hole filler

The "big gaping hole" is covered by the No plate, there are 2 threaded holes in the rear of the guard, the idea being you can remove the rear No plate to remove the rear wheel though the hole the No plate is covering, all 200,225 and 250cc FB's ( except the Cruiser 91 which is a James anyway and the panelled in 84) use the same rear No plate from 1955 onwards, the rear No plate from 1952/54 swing arm models is the same pressing, but this has 2 triangular brackets which can be removed) the No plate is basically square with a rolled over edge and an additional curved bottom edge to take a reflector.
Sorry not got one at the moment, but they turn up regularly

Numberplate.

Thanks John. I'll have another look. I've been looking on EBay and nothing appears the right shape, but at least I have a bit more of a clue now. Every photo of a Falcon 87 I found didn't give a good view of the plate and I couldn't tell whether it went behind the back light or not - now answered ta.
