Model 96 rear hub brake plate

Post  dalgrae on Tue Aug 29, 2017 3:36 pm

Can anyone please advise me regarding my model 96 rear hub brake plate the workshop manual mentions and shows a domed cover being fitted over the brake plate ,the only parts book I have covers a James models from 1961 to 63 but shows the cover as part number 004609 being fitted to the L15 model,my rear hub gives the impression as not having been apart for a long time ,I have also sent a PM to paulfb96 and he confirms his bike does not have this cover .Any advice most welcome

Regards. Colin

M16/Model 96 rear brake cover plate

Post  FB vincent on Fri Sep 01, 2017 6:04 am

Colin,

The James M16/FB96 sales leaflet photo shows that no cover plate was fitted to the rear brake. FB seemed to have been inconsistent between models over the later years as to whether a cover plate was fitted, and this applies not only to the 150 cc bikes. I have never seen a spares list for the M16/FB96 bikes - towards the end of production it appears that costs were being avoided wherever possible. I can send you a copy of the leaflet if you send me a PM with your email address. Sandy
