Gudgeon pin removal

Post  piston 197 on Sun Aug 20, 2017 10:53 am

First place a rag in the crankcase mouth so nothing drops in ,Remove one circlip, warm up the piston with a heat gun , push pin out, if piston is not on a rod , then dipping in hot water will do !

Thanks JH...wasn't sure if they were a conrod gripped pin or not as there were no circlips fitted. All is now clear!

pin fit

Post  piston 197 on Sun Aug 20, 2017 1:35 pm

They should be floating in the small end bush and light interference fit in the piston, Modern car technology is as you describe, and i have removed these, but you need to heat the conrod eye and press them out, changed a lot of these when cars filled with water in floods and bent the rods, but with this car type you always have the rod off the engine when you have to remove the piston.
Presumably someone has started the job for you and removed the clips, because if it was run like this, as soon as the piston got hot ,the pin would have moved and snagged the transfer ports
