Engine ID?

Post  seipgam on Sat Aug 05, 2017 5:22 am

Hi all,
Could anyone possibly identify what a Villiers engine with stampings 928A 29550 is?
Is fitted with a cowling which suggests it may have been fitted to something other than a bike.
Other info I have suggests it may have a reverse gear (not sure this would be right).

I don't know my engine models much, just looks like generic Villiers to me.

Regards, Geoff.

928A is not in the list of Villiers engine specs, but if it is fitted with fan cooling it will have come out of a scooter or micro car, only the 8E type engines fitted with the 4 speed gearbox had reverse gears, these can be identified by a "R" prefix to the gearbox numbers and they only have a Kick start spline ( no gearshaft spline as the linkage was to the selector mechanism)
The A series engines were not fitted with a reverse gear, they had Siba dynastart units and 2 sets of points, so engine could be run backwards to give reverse drive.
The biggest used of the 8E engine with reverse gearbox was the Bond micro car
I will send you a p.m with my Email address a picture of the engine should give positive id. ?
