Amc15 t engine query

Post  dalgrae on Sun Jul 30, 2017 9:11 am

I have just been running my Amc15 t engine after an inspection of it as I bought it it looks fine ,I stripped the clutch to replace one of the studs ,I have run the engine without the primary case cover on and have noticed a streak of oil on the floor rear of the engine which is gearbox oil and it looks like it is coming from within the clutch,I have no idea where this oil is leaking from I rebuilt the clutch with all the parts I had, looking at the parts list for the engine item 158 Gearbox layshaft end cap 541682 gives me the impression it blanks off something ,where does this fit please also the bush item 157 part number 545173

layshaft end cap

Post  piston 197 on Sun Jul 30, 2017 10:26 am

There are two shafts in the gearbox , the mainshaft which protrudes form the gearbox and carries the clutch and gearbox sprocket, and the layshaft which does not protrude form the gearbox, but if it has an end cap then there will be a hole the end of the gearbox shell where the shaft mounts into a bush in the gearbox casing with a cap to seal the hole, this will be probably in the form of a "coreplug" type cap, which taps in to close off the hole, if you look below the mainshaft you should see a pressed in cap sealing off the hole, if you can see the layshaft rotating when you turn the gearbox, then this endcap will be missing.
