Help Help Help with new Cruiser 79 AMC

Post  Mickdowning on Mon Jul 10, 2017 8:42 pm

Hi All,
I have been getting more and more irate with my new FBI Cruiser 79 AMC. When I brought it it was running addicted to choke also needed new ignition switch and leaking petrol through bottom of carb!
Had Carb sonic cleaned and new fibre washs fotted.
Still leaking fuel and still addicted to choke!
New Lucas ignition switch fitted using diagram wiring in manual, but still no lights or horn .
Had it running once today now it's no sparking or running at all!
Really want to be able to go out and ride!
Does anyone on this forum take bikes away and fix them !!
I am losing my patience with this one !

the joys of 50 year old bikes

Post  Bigjim on Mon Jul 10, 2017 8:59 pm

This is the joy of owning & running bikes that are 50+ years old with even older technology.
Sounds like the carb  has the wrong jets, or they are not set correctly or the timing is not spot on.  Do you know when the crankcase seals were last changed?  If more years than you want to think about, could mean they have hardened, just sitting around idle.
check out the AMAL web site for tuning guides
