Various advice needed please

Post  S.C_07 on Fri Jun 23, 2017 9:18 pm

Hi
I have a Francis Barnett falcon 1959 , 10e engine and I need some advise please

Does anyone know where I can get new ball bearings for the steering . Is it bad to put the old ones back in they don't look bad condition at all ?

Does anyone have a list of torque settings for various nuts and bolts on the the bike ? If theyre even supposed to be torqued to spec ??
Thank you

Do you just want the bearings or do you want the cases as well. From memory the bearings are 2 x 19 x 1/4" bearings. They are not expensive and hardly worth reusing old ones. Get some extra as your sure to loose some down the frame tube. You can find these on eBay. You may find JH has some. I just sold about 6 usable cases so bad timing.
You won't find many Torque settings, it's a matter of feel. If your unsure about that you need to be very careful especially into alloy.
Keep your spanner short and use one hand and don't jerk them

When I took the forks off there's this grease around the bearings , is there a certain grease needed for steering or can I just use any ordinary stuff I can buy , just not sure
Thank you

There may be something special Look in the manual but you will need a thick grease. You will see why when you try to put the forks back on.

Any other filter ?

As they say at the end of the Loony Tunes films "That's all folks"
Wire mesh only , will stop insects and small stones etc. but not much use in the dustier conditions, the comp models used a Vokes filter with an element filter, but these were for the Amal 276 carb these models used and not suitable for the clip fitting Villers carb.

The standard filter is good for all but the dustiest condition, so if not desert racing it should be fine ?

Thanks for that. Thought there might have been a finer, oiled element around the mesh. Original engine after 63 years- not going to argue!
