9D reversed barrell

Post  johnh on Wed May 24, 2017 7:24 am

I'm considering bidding on an interesting local "barn Find" this Saturday. its a girder forked, rigid frame scrambler with a 9D engine that looks like its had the barrel reversed, ie the exhaust ports face rearwards and the carby sits in front. because the exhaust ports face rearwards, there are no bends just a a simple straight pipe running either side of the engine and frame. the engine number indicates it was originally an Australian built Acme road bike from approx. 1946.
My question: will a 9D actually work in this configuration.
thanks johnh
