Cruiser 80 gearbox problem

Post  sbeagle on Thu May 18, 2017 7:06 pm

Hi I have 2 problems in stripping down the gearbox on the Cruiser 80.

How do I remove the mainshaft and does it need a special tool?
How do you remove the front sprocket with the gearbox stripped down?

All help would be appreciated thanks

Providing you have removed everything securing the main shaft it will come out easily ?
Have you ended up with the mainshaft still in the main case and held by the gearbox sprocket ? if so you need to remove the gearbox sprocket and securing nut before it will come out. If you have it still attached to the end case then it is just a matter of removing everything securing it and tapping it out of the bearing
To remove the front engine sprocket from the crankshaft it is a matter of preventing the crank from turning and undoing the nut securing it ?

gearbox problem

Drive sprocket stuck hard. Probably been on for 60 years. Flattened the tab washer applied heat, used a 3ft bar and was having none of it. Ended up cutting the nut off.

Main-shaft has a threaded Colette which I tapped off and this revealed a nut. Then knocked out the bearing and happy days all ready for the rebuild
