Spark Plug 15.5mm /0.610

Post  Fun on Sun Mar 05, 2017 10:07 am

Hi

At some point in its life the head in my FB 172 has been rethreaded. The spark plug fitted is old and a champion j-9 no other markings.

The diameter is odd probably because it was rethreaded 15.5mm /0.610 diameter. And I am struggling to find a suitable replacement does anyone have any thoughts of where I can get one?

Or is it worth having it redrilled again( can you do twice?) me adding a thread son it takes a standard say 14mm plug?

All help appreciated

If you search eBay there are loads of adapators and inserts.
I don't know how good a Helicoil is for this job but there are also inserts.

Hi Ken

Thanks for that problem is all the kits etc I can find are all pretty much standard sizes, 18mm-14 or 14-12 etc, I seem to have a weird starting place!

That us sounding like it's been threaded fir a Helicoil and the coil is not fitted. The extra 1.5mm would be about correct fir an insert .

It's definitely has a new thread of some sort you can see the change in metal, I have hopefully found a local shop who can rethread for me etc so fingers crossed
