Carb adjustments

Post  S.C_07 on Sat Feb 04, 2017 12:02 pm

Hi I have a 1959 falcon , it runs and moves however it quite often cuts out , it also struggles to start sometimes . When it starts I have to open the throttle quite wide , if I was to close it a little it will splutter and begin to cut out , it will also run quite aggressively ( I dunot know if its supposed to but when it starts there's a whole bunch of revs ) , I've decided I need to do some carb adjustments , can anyone say what adjustments I need to do and how do them . Im 16 and have zero experience with carbs so any help will be great . Possibly the needle needs adjusting ? How should it be adjusted ? And any other tips and tricks to get it running smoothly will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Scott

Set the slide needle so that it protrudes 1.95" below the flat part of the throttle slide ( adjuster screw in centre of slide) then adjust the mixture screw on side of carburettor 1 1/2 turns out from fully home
You may have to fine tune these settings, but it is where you should start
