Falcon 87. Footrest spacers.

Post  colk2004 on Fri Jan 13, 2017 5:16 pm

Still waiting for a few bits from the powder coaters - tank, sidepanel, rear mudguard and engine mounts. Because of the last bits I'm building up a rolling chassis that I can bung the engine in when I've got everything ready. Looking through the bits that came off, I have two very tatty looking bits of 1/16" wall tubing of two different lengths that don't look like any manufacturer would produce...but I could be wrong. 1 is 15/16" long, the other is 5/16" bore of both is 9/16". Does this sound right? Are they meant to be different lengths? If the lengths are correct I'll spin something more suitable in the lathe as 1/16" tube looks a bit feeble.... i think.

Cheers Col

Seamed tube and thin wall looks a bit amateur to me but is this right?

Colin, yes, they look just like the type of spacers found on my Falcon (81). The smaller one on the left has wear on it similar to mine that was on the pivot shaft for the centre stand and sits within the 'eye' of the stand itself.

regards,
Steve.

Falcon 87 footrest spacers.

Doh! Not thinking. The plans for the centre stand and frame I have, show the spacers for the footrest bar. And they are indeed different lengths and not made of the heftiest tubing, to say the least. I think I'll be departing from (again) FBs original spec' and knocking up some aluminium ones of about 5mm wall thickness, so they sit better between the frame and the footrest. At a later date if I fancy getting the bike completely factory standard all these bits go into storage for swapping but at the moment, getting it in one piece and rideable is more important.

Cheers Colin
