Frame number

Post  piston 197 on Sat Jan 07, 2017 7:02 pm

If it is a 1953 Falcon, it will have a frame Number beginning TM for a Falcon 58, or it could be a Falcon 67 which started from September 1953 , frame No for this begins UM

If it is neither of these than either the year or model is wrong ? f you post the frame No or just the first letters someone will be able to positively identify it , so you get the right manual

Green colour

Post  piston 197 on Sun Jan 08, 2017 2:27 pm

Unlikly to be 1953 then First green falcon was the Model 74 issued from Sept 1955 onwards
Green paint ( if correct) is Arden Green and available from RS Bikepaints

Hi, I am not very good with the internet.
but here is the frame number.
UM67856. engine number 73988F
so i think , based on what you have said, that it may be a falcon 67.
I will go now to google and see what one looks like and see if it looks like mine.
Can you advise me on what manual i need and where I buy it.
Thanks

Falcon 67

Post  piston 197 on Thu Jan 12, 2017 8:52 am

Yes it is a Falcon 67, a series 1 model produced from Sept i953 onwards ( classed as a 1954 model)
the engine No is not complete, there sh0uld be a coding before the number you give taking the form of 3 numbers and a letter i.e. 375A
The original colour of this machine would have been Black, there were Blue ones, but these have a "B" after the frame No. and yours does not

thanks so much.
I took the engine number from a position where the securing bolt passes through the through the engine casting wwheere it bolts the engine to the frame. Am I looking in the right place?

Engine Number position

Post  piston 197 on Thu Jan 12, 2017 11:22 am

The engine number is on the top of the casting above the front engine mount and below the cylinder barrel stamped into the alloy,
it will be two rows of numbers/letters stamped as below as an example
First line is the makers specification and denotes which motorcycle manufacturer Villiers made it for
Second line is the unique serial No.

375A/
123456E

Hi and thank,
I looked more carefully and the number I have is either 366B or 766B the first number is badly stamped.

engine No

Post  piston 197 on Fri Jan 13, 2017 11:05 am

766B would be a later 9E engine and not fit your frame , so 366B is the more likely candidate

Hi and thanks, I really appreciate it,
I took some photos of the bike today an would like to email them to somebody in the club to point me in the right directions,re manual and non-standard parts.
Do you have any suggestions. Or should I post my email address here?

engine

Post  piston 197 on Fri Jan 13, 2017 3:31 pm

366B is not on my list of specifications for engines, but the list is nowhere near complete, it should be a 8E, ( pictures will confirm) normal engine codes for a FB 67 would be 374A and 387A/
