8E clutch basket

Post  kerabo on Sun Dec 11, 2016 7:31 pm

Can anyone remember how much thread shows through when the clutch basket is positioned on the gearbox spline?. It could be the wrong nut I have as the threads dont come through it. I have rebuilt the gearbox but I can't see this could affect anything. The basket only slides to the back of the spline.

Thread length

Post  piston 197 on Sun Dec 11, 2016 8:13 pm

It will depend which main shaft you have ? the 8E clutch thread is shorter than the 9E/10E type, both fit into the 8E 3 speed box, the Short one is for when you are using the standard 8E clutch type , you substitute the main shaft for the longer type out of the 10E 3 speed box if you wish to fit the multiplate clutch from the 10E engine

Gearbox Clutch

Post  kerabo on Sun Dec 11, 2016 8:19 pm

I would guess it's a standard Clutch with a 3 speed gearbox. The clutch basket is a unit with the 6 pegs for the springs and then the toothed sprocket goes into a bearing face.
I think the nut must be about 10mm deep and without a spring washer its about a thread short of coming through the nut. I have used Locktite to hold the nut.
