Falcon 67 back on the road and idle speed query

Post  Brentis1 on Sat Oct 08, 2016 5:37 am

Hi Guys,
Finally took the Falcon 67 for a warrant of fitness (NZ roadworthy certificate) after pretty much a complete rebuild and she flew thru. Another FB back on the road😀

Just one small query - I replaced the throttle cable and Doughtey throttle. And she is just not quite idling fast enough with the throttle fully closed. In fact it stops. If I give it the tiniest of turns on the throttle it idles perfectly. What is the easiest way to increase the idle speed. I have an S25 type carb. It has an air screw but no idle adjustment screw.

Please can I ask someone's advice. Would also be interested to know how to adjust the air screw but suspect I need to get the idle right first.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Brent

idling

There should be no "idle" setting for this engine, it should stop when throttle is closed, you have 2 options , both bodges
1 fit a friction adjustment type throttle twistgrip, where it can be set to sufficient friction so that it will stay in each position it is left in ( risky if you fall off and engine does not stop )
2 adjust the cable to give a tick over by holding the slide slightly open ( again is likely to cause revving when handlebars are moved and throttle cable is pulled
It is designed to stop when the throttle is closed to prevent a weak mixture on downhill over run.
Option 1 will allow the throttle to be completely closed on the over run and is probably the better option ?

Thanks JH - if that is how it is supposed to be then that is the way it will stay.

Any advice on how to best adjust the air screw.

Cheers

settings

Original factory setting had a needle free length of 1.95" protruding below the flat bottom of the slide and the air screw 1 1/2 turns out from fully home.
This was the original setting with new parts and some slight alteration may be required to compensate for wear ?, but best to start at the right place ?
