Help Required! Basket Case

Post  Peggy on Thu Sep 22, 2016 8:51 pm

Hi All, new to the forum as my Dad and I have just been given a box of bits to restore over winter and we are going to need so.e serious help!
As a starter for ten can anyone help identify and date the bike from the frame and engine numbers?

Engine number 662b 5594
Frame number 5594

I did a quick Google and can't find much info, the bike itself is 80 complete although in 1000s of pieces!

Greatful of any help, thanks!

Peggy

The engine number is from a 197cc 10E villiers engine which was originally fitted to a Falcon 81. If this is still in the original frame the bike will be 1958 or 1959 although the engine number suggests 1959. The frame number is stamped into the left hand side of the steering headstock and will be two letters followed by five numbers. There may be an additional letter at the end which will denote a colour option. The only colour option on the Falcon 81 was white so there may be a 'W'. No letter means it was originally green. 1958 will start ZN, 1959 will start AN.

The frame No you list is from a Villiers 10E engine which was fitted to the FB Falcon 81, if you have the correct frame for this engine the frame No will begin ZN ( 1958) or AN ( 1959), the number you give sounds like one of the raised cast on frame part no, the Frame No is stamped INTO the l/hand side of the headstock in front of the petrol tank l/hand front mounting point
