Rectifier query

Post  Tony Rickwood on Sat Jul 02, 2016 12:08 pm

Hopefully someone can give me a quick answer to this...
My Falcon has got one of the old "cream cracker" rectifiers which, as far as I know, is still working fine. It has, however, got quite a bit of surface rust on it. Question- would it do any harm to paint it, and if that's no-go, is there an alternative rectifier I could use?
Thanks.

Rectifier query

Post  marcusrm on Sun Jul 03, 2016 10:07 am

Can't answer the question about painting, although as the case is isolated from the frame I don't think it will do any harm.
However I didn't trust the original rectifier so I bought an "A Reg Six" from Paul Goff (01494 868218).
This is a modern rectifier module with an in built 6V regulator.
I haven't fitted it as yet but others have recommended it.

Thanks Marcus, I've just got back in from the Workshop- been rewiring and chasing Earths and I'm satisfied the Bike is "alive" now! I was actually scanning through old posts at about 2am and found a diagram showing the connections to a cheap replacement so I'll probably try that. Thanks for replying! 😊
