4 speed box

Post  andy-s on Sun Jun 05, 2016 4:20 pm

Is it possible to fit a 4 speed box to an 8e with a straight inlet manifold type cylinder and s25 carb? The problem is the carb bottom nut just hits the top of the gear box casing . I know the standard 8e 4 speed set up uses a cylinder with a bolt on cranked inlet type manifold . Is there a cranked manifold extension or would it have to be made up? and would changing the inlet length still work ok? Or is there another solution? I don't want to change the cylinder as its been rebored with new piston.
Thanks Andy

I had the same problem when fitting a 4 speed box to a 3 speed type 8E. Had to get another barrel with separate cranked bolt on manifold. No other option I think. TTFN Jack

carb manifold

Cotton Villiers Spares ( google them) do a clamp on manifold to take an Amal carburettor, clamps to existing stub and has a flange to take a Concentric or Monobloc, you will have to tell him the diameter of stub, yours should be 28.6mm, the later carb stubs are 30mm
