Possible ISDT Frame and Engine Number Identification

Post  tritrophy on Tue May 17, 2016 5:11 am

Found in Western USA is a FannyB with Frame number: tt TMS70652C and Engine Prefix 380A numbered 1975.
I seem to recall identification like this for an ISDT Francis-Barnett.
Please help me identify this old warrior. What year, model, displacement and application/use?
Thank you.

frame nos

Post  piston 197 on Tue May 17, 2016 6:12 am

TMS is a frame no for the 1953 Falcon, the C suffix denotes competition version. not sure of your frame no as you list it( tt TMS)

TTMS is a 1953 scrambler 64 ( sprung frame) and also a swing arm road bike falcon 58 ( without the C suffix

There are only 3 ISDT bikes from this year, I have one , the other two are both accounted for, all of the factory ISDT bikes have a frame No XS**** You will see the ISDT bikes in my avatar

Engine No 380A was a 7E competition engine supplied to James for the K7C Cotswold scrambler, and to OEC for the ST3 model.

TMS Frame No

Post  tritrophy on Tue May 17, 2016 2:27 pm

Thank you for the very informative response.

Frame number has a prefix, small upper case font "TT" well ahead of the TMS.
Is a spring frame. Does this help nail down Year and Model?
Also, Fuel Tank has the fork clearance indentations at the front.

7E makes the engine 197cc, right?

I believed the engine to be original, but is it not?

Please clarify further.
Thank you.

frame numbers

Post  piston 197 on Tue May 17, 2016 2:41 pm

Frame numbers were either TTMS , or TMS the small "tt" in front of the TMS means very little and not sure why it is there all, Frame Nos on FB's are always in capitals.

The coding in front of the numbers on the engine No, ( in this case 380A) is Villiers specification and identification of manufacturer supplied to.
380A is the correct type 7E 197cc engine for a Competition bike, but the coding is for a James K7C Cotswold or an OEC, the correct coding for a 7E fitted in 1953 would be 374A for a scrambler and 375A for a trialler.
The competition FB engines were always fitted with an Amal 276 pre monobloc carburettor with top feed float bowl, the James used the standard Villiers carb.
Which carburettor does this bike have ?

Frame No. and Carb

Post  tritrophy on Tue May 17, 2016 3:06 pm

Carburetor is Amal with top feed remote float.

While the TT prefix is Upper Case, the font is smaller-it surely looks to be contemporary to frame numbering but is not tight to it.

I struggled to attach photos, is there a tutorial?
