Kestrel 66 Front Brake

Post  PeterW on Mon May 16, 2016 5:03 pm

Restoration of my Kestrel 66 is finally nearing completion (photo below) but Iím having a problem with the front brake. Even at little more than walking speed, when the front brake is applied, the backplate anchor is riding out of engagement with the front fork slider by bending the forked anchor that is attached to the backplate, thus allowing it to rotate. I canít see any way of adjusting the engagement although it is fairly tight to the slider anyway.

Has anyone else had this problem or able to offer a solution please?

Thanks,

PeterW

front brake anchor

Many moons ago the first FB I restored ( 1986) was a Kestrel 66, a previous owner had obviously had the same problem and when I got it there was a "U" bolt brazed to the top surface of the brake anchor reinforcing the stop plate. It was such a neat job I left it there, not realizing it was not original, if VRB909 is still out there I bet it is still on it ?
