any suggestions for where to get brake shoes from ?

If you already have shoes, easiest and cheapest option is to have them re-lined
Villiers services will usually do them on an exchange basis, and there are numerous firms you can send your shoes to and get them relined with a modern brake shoe material

Villiers even have an EBay listing for the brake service 19.95 a pair which is only slightly more than a set of BSA Bantam shoes and they are pretty common, so a good deal.
