Falcon 87 - Oddie Studs

Post  colk2004 on Sat Mar 19, 2016 9:50 pm

I'm having trouble working out what studs I need to get for my side panels. All the studs I'm finding are listed by long and short for BSA/Triumph models but not by actual length. Also where is the length measured from and to?

You need the short ones as used to hold BSA side panels on , when fitting use a washer and a short piece of rubber tube sleeved over them, it acts as a spring to keep the pressure on them and stop them rattling
try Kidderminster motorcycles , they used to stock them ?

Hi, this is taken from the Falcon 87 spares book, it quotes long and short oddie studs. Mike

Yes Mike one long and one short, short one at rear of toolbox lid and long at front, sorry missed the bit about it being an 87, the 70,74,81 all use one short only each side , the 87 uses 2 on each panel as the is no front on toolbox centre piece

The length measured from under the head are as follows for the FB 87:

Front: 1 3/8"

Back: 1"

The above assumes an external washer of 1/16" thick, and a toolbox cover plate thickness of 1/16".

Falcon 87 Oddie Studs

Post  colk2004 on Wed Mar 30, 2016 5:16 pm

Thanks people. I bought the following items and luckily they are the correct ones. Do we have a list of alternative parts for the Francis Barnetts? With the Scimitar I've got I got a booklet from the owners club that lists (you guessed it) alternative parts to replace the hard to come by bits or the bits that are easy to come by if looking for a different vehicle. E.G boot lock for a Scimitar is apparently made from unobtainium, but one for a MG BGT are a couple of quid new with keys from autojumbles.
So my Francis Barnett short studs are = BSA ODDIE STUD SHORT 60-0982 & 68-9223, and the Francis Barnett long studs are = BSA BANTAM ODDIE STUD 68-9287 D14 B175. A list like this would help for common items like clutch, brake and throttle cables (all missing from my bike), brake shoes, in fact all consumables.
