I will look at mine in daylight, but you don't need a battery to get it started.

Battery

Post  andy-s on Fri Feb 19, 2016 7:56 pm

I Think the Falcon 74 could be purchased with two different lighting sets , Direct or Rectifier . With Direct lighting there is no battery . With Rectifier lighting the battery should be 6v 10amp/hr with positive earth. With Rectifier lighting you should have a four position switch on the head light , but don't know about direct . Hope that's of some help.

Falcon 74 lighting set

Post  piston 197 on Sun Feb 21, 2016 6:40 pm

The Falcon 58,67,74 81 and 87 from 1954 onwards were supplied with rectified lighting set,
The smaller Plovers 73,78,86 were available with direct or rectified lighting, You have to go back to the Rigid Falcon 54 and 55 to have the option of direct ( model 54) and rectified (Model55) to find a Falcon without a battery as standard ( not including competition models, trials scramblers etc )
