Will it fit?

Post  mike Sayer on Thu Feb 11, 2016 7:45 pm

Hi all, a member friend rang me today to ask if a 2T engine would fit in place of the AMC engine currently in his bike. The frame & engine numbers of the bike in question are HF 92359 & V20T 9387 respectively. I think these numbers refer to a 1965 Falcon 87. I do know that the 2T slots straight into the Cruiser 84 frame with no alteration to the frame at all, but I don`t know about the Falcon 87 --------But, I bet I know a man who does!! Can you extend the enormous amount of help & advice you give to members, to help yet one more member, please John.
Regards & thanks,
Mike Sayer. Wink

engine swap

Post  piston 197 on Thu Feb 11, 2016 7:49 pm

2T into AMC 20T mounts will not fit, the engine will physically fit in the frame, but engine mounts will need to be altered/fabricated to fit the 2T engine into the Falcon 87 frame.
On the other hand the 2T will slot straight into the cruiser 68,71,75,80 and 84 mounts (and of course the 89 and 91 where it is normally fitted)

Engine change

Post  kerabo on Fri Feb 12, 2016 9:21 am

I am not sure where but I came across an 87 fitted with a twin within the last week or two. Well it was a FB with 5" brakes so assume it was an 87. I think if I was to do this I would update at least the front brake.

It has been done !

Yes ken, I have seen FB Falcon 87 and James Captain L20 that have been fitted with 2T engines, but as said before it is an engineering exercise as the mounts are different, whereas the 1H and AMC 25T exchanges are a straight drop-in with no engine mount modification .
