oddie fasteners

Post  AHFBC on Fri Jan 29, 2016 11:06 am

I have recently taken on a 1958 Falcon 81, the battery/toolbox covers are complete with the 1'' oddie chrome fastener pins, my question concerns what these pins attach to on the bike to secure the covers. There is a bracket with a plain hole but for the life of me I cant tighten the pins by a sharp blow with the palm of the hand as per the handbook or turning the pin, am I missing a trick or a bike part? if the latter where can I get these parts.
Can anyone out there help please.

Oddie fasteners

Post  mike Sayer on Fri Jan 29, 2016 11:36 am

hi, sounds like you are one part short of an Oddie fastener assembly(no disrespect!)
The Oddie fastener pin locates in a spring clip which is fixed behind the bracket with the clearance hole in it. this spring clip is usually rivetted to the bracket. It may be that some member will be able to tell you where you can obtain the clips you need, I`m sorry but I can`t.
hope this helps.
Mike.

The captive part of the oddie fastner is a sprung steel item that locates in the slots machined into the pin, presuming you just have a hole and no female sprung part ?
see Ebay item 371521667348 to see what you are missing possibly ?

I was able to purchase a pair of Oddie fasteners from Burtons Bike Bits about 18 months ago. There was no issue about a minimum quantity but Oddies are not cheap

That's a very good price. I had to pay a lot more than that at Burtons.
