Timing on 8E

Post  kerabo on Sun Jan 24, 2016 9:57 am

I have been asked by a member to time his 8E for him. From my youth I remember the arrow on the flywheel and the notch on the casing but from memory we used to set the cut on the crankshaft end straight up so TDC. The information I have says 5/32" BTDC.

My question is, are the marks preset to give this if its timed at TDC or do I need to align the arrow with the piston at 5/32"

Thanks Ken

alignment

The marks are set with the piston at TDC, points gap is set to .015, piston is at TDC and marks align you should have the correct timing, points gap and heel wear may put this slightly out and flywheel may not be the original one , so a check should have the points just starting to break at 5/32" before TDC,

Timing

Thank you John.
I went and had a look and thought that is how it should be. The only variable is the points gap. Somebody had been having fun as there are marks and scratches all over the plate and flywheel.

Thanks again Ken
