Cruiser 89 exhaust pipe update

Post  Druid on Thu Jan 21, 2016 11:17 pm

After hearing about the problems with poor fit of chrome pipes on the market, I have approached two tube engineering firms, who specialise in bike exhaust systems, to get an idea of the cost for stainless steel replacements. To date, I have had a guide price of approx. 200 for 1 pair, 150 for 3 and 100 for 10 pairs, subject to seeing my actual original samples to confirm. Do we have 10 people, or more, who would be interested in the idea of getting a batch manufactured?
Regards Dave.

Dear Jim, FB Vincent and Peter,

Thanks for your input.

The pipes will be made using my original 2T pipes as patterns. I have sent pictures to the tube engineers ane confirmed that they have the formers of the correct bending radius. I will be sending my pipes to them this week so should soon have a firmed up prices.

Regarding silencers, I understand that VS have the dies for the correct flanged pattern silencers but you guess is as good mine when/if they will become available!

Dave

2t Pipes & Silencers

Post  peter@dunfordconstruction on Thu Jan 28, 2016 10:52 am

Dear Druid,

Many Thanks I might well need 2 sets of pipes. Trouble is with VS silencers I do not believe he does authentic withdrawable baffle tubes which are quite complicated and very good! I look forward to hearing from you in due course

I got some silencers from Armours Bournemouth, they are seamless and looked good this was on my 4T engine.

Cruiser 89 Exhaust Pipes update 2

Post  Druid on Fri Feb 12, 2016 10:55 pm

I have now received a firm quote for polished stainless steel pipes to be made using my original pipes as patterns. The price for 10 off is 140 per pair and for 5 off 170. For comparison, the chrome mild steel "2T" pipes from Armours come in at 118.
The increase from the indicative quote reflects the double radius set up cost and very small amount of straight pipe between the curves that causes a problem with the bending machine pipe clamps. I am informed that the original pipes were probably made using the "sand fill, plug ends and hot bend method".

Feedback regarding interest in the pipes at the above 10 off price would be appreciated.

Regards
Dave

Cruiser 89 exhaust pipe update2

Post  Druid on Sun Feb 21, 2016 9:49 pm

The order has now been placed for a batch of stainless pipes for the Cruiser 89 fitted with 2T engine. Cost will be 140.00 pair and I expect delivery mid April 2016.

If all goes to plan my Cruiser 89, sporting its new pipes, will be on the Club stand at Stafford Show on 23/24 April. I will also take pipes to Stafford for anyone who may be interested.

With regard to the pipes fitting the 4T engine Cruisers, I understand that the exhaust ports on the 4T have female threads, they may not be a direct replacement. However, since we do not have plating to damage the stainless pipes should be easier to tweak if required. Has anyone got more details of 4T pipes?

Regards
Dave

Hi All,

Regarding the batch of stainless steel Cruiser 89 pipes that I had made from my 2T patterns, I was not sure if they would fit bikes fitted with 4T engines. However, following fitting to a "4T" Cruiser 89 I can confirm that they suitable for both variants.
