1H advice please

Post  geoffrey hooper on Tue Jan 05, 2016 8:36 pm

Hello all, back to the shed after a break. I have two 1H barrels in good Nick, one stamped at the top with a '2' the other with a '1'. They each have a different bore (I don't have a micrometer so I don't know the diameters). I have two pistons, 1 stamped '15OS' (brand new) which is a bit small for the smaller barrel. The second stamped '+060' which is badly scored and a bit small for the bigger barrel. With me so far?
Please can you advise how best to get one good fitting barrel and piston from this combination. I had been thinking of getting smaller barrel overbored to fit bigger piston, but I think this piston is knackered. Thanks. Geoff

piston woes

Geoff sounds like the +060 piston is scrap and neither of your barrels is suitable for the +015,? suggest either you find a barrel that will bore to the +015, or I have a +040 piston , that has been fitted to an engine and run briefly, before a change of mind shelved the project for a twin engine. This piston is available if you need it ? you could then bore the barrel that is a bit too large for the +015 piston, it will work if your smaller barrel will bore to 64mm , the size of a +040 piston ?

Thanks John, I will measure the smaller barrel and make sure that is do-able. do you know anyone who rebores in the southwest (I am in Frome) Or would you recommend Villiers services? Cheers, Geoff.
