What is the going rate for a new Falcon 87 piston?

Post  colk2004 on Mon Jun 29, 2015 4:20 pm

What is every one else paying for AMC 20t pistons. Just been quoted 100+ p&p for a .std bore, and 125 + p&p for a +0.15". Not had to buy a piston for anything for years so does that sound about right?

Price of a piston

Colin , you are very lucky to have found someone with one at all, they are notoriously hard to find and the seller has the upper hand

Falcon 87 piston price

Post  colk2004 on Mon Jun 29, 2015 9:02 pm

Thanks John. I sort of guessed I was over a barrel(?!) on this one Sad Soon as I get one for me, I'll publish the details of where the dwindling stock can be found for other members. From the 3 barrels, heads and pistons I've got I might be able to salvage one good set. 1 barrel on .std but a mega ridge at the top of the bore and a decent piston and rings - needs a rebore to +0.15". One barrel on +0.20" oversize (stamped on the piston) perfect bore but the piston has a bit of land missing and no rings. One barrel on +0.60" decent piston, needs rings but the bore is looking worn as well so that one is scrap Crying or Very sad

The source I found I'll have to dig out again. They had std, +0.15 and + 0.30, but when I enquired again the price was nearer 150 due to them buying back from where they'd sold the stock to! They wouldn't tell me who had them either. Luckily whilst I was pondering what to do a barrel and piston came up from John (piston 197) so I looked no further. I'll see if I can find the old emails.

AMC pistons

Post  FB vincent on Thu Feb 04, 2016 5:37 pm

The following advertise AMC pistons, but not the larger oversizes.

Autocycle Engineering at http://www.auto-cycle.co.uk/parts.htm

PISTONS - AMC 2/Stroke 150, 200, 250, assorted STD, 015, 030
PISTONS - AMC 150, 200, 250, various

Bantam John also claims to have original pistons up to 30 thou oversize, but I am not aware that anyone has succesfully managed to purchase one from him.

whats the going rate, etc.

That's them! The ones I was talking to last year. Very helpful but as I say last I knew was that they had sold their stock....but if you're desperate they can always buy it back on your behalf.
