Wiring Diagram for a Falcon 87

Post  colk2004 on Wed Apr 22, 2015 8:19 pm

The wiring for my Falcon currently(!) consists of 2" hanging off one of the switches in the headlight, and about the same attached to the original rectifier (which will go solid state), and thats it. There is nothing else vaguely electrical apart from the engine on the bike. Where can I get a wiring diagram, and are all the bits I'm missing (lights, switches, horn, coil, wires, battery, etc) fairly standard or do I need to start tracking down specific to the FB/James parts?

Cheers Colin

A wiring diagram is as below. The parts you list should be readily available, since they were not specific to FB. The wiring diagram was common to many lightweight bikes of the period with Wipac electrics.

Colin
I made a complete loom for mine only to find the connectors to the switches were not available. I could have cut and joined them but that would have been a mess so I binned it and found a good used one.
If you go ahead They are Wipac switches and used on the Bantam so you can search there. The switches are available. The horn and its bracket are a strange shape.Other parts try Paul Goff

Thanks one and all. I've managed to get the Wipac switch sockets as new pattern parts, pricey but fit nicely. Bantam switches, for the lights, ignition and duocon. Coil will be an Enfield India Lucas copy. Rectifier will be one of Rex Caunts solid state jobs. Back light I've already got but need to fill in the missing bit of the mudguard to fit it. The bit I'm currently struggling with is the headlight glass and rim - I thought it would be the same as the Bantam, but its smaller! Guessing 5.5" so now I'm trying to work out what more common bike had that size.

Headlight Glass

Post  colk2004 on Thu May 14, 2015 8:11 am

Ah. So I'm looking for a glass and separate reflector then? Might be why I'm struggling to find the right part. Just seem to find 5 3/4", 6", 6 1/2", 7" and above...even loads of 4 1/2" but nothing at the right size.

The sockets have just hit the market as it was getting daft re-soldering progressively older ones onto brand new harnesses (like on my D10), I paid 16.94 inc postage for the new one.

No, the original Wipac unit was sold as a complete glass and reflector unit. However, I believe that it is possible to separate them - old reflector units are often so rusty they are unserviceable. Unfortunately the correct Wipac items come into the hens teeth category of rarity. Sandy

I hope it is. Same as the glass on it's own further up this thread. I made an offer which was accepted so it's mine. Hope it fits as my ppile of bits for sticking back on EBay is growing fast!. I'll just swap the electrical fittings for something a bit neater and a bit less likely to earth everything in sight. Just need to find the rim.

I can now confirm the headlight listed for a Morris Minor on EBay (thought they were all 7") is the correct one and fits the shell fine. Bit of gaffer tape till I find a decent rim to rechrome should do.
