Can anyone tell me what this 9E engine came from. I suspect a 3 wheeler by its mountings and dynastart 716B  6689   9E

716B engine

Post  piston 197 on Sun Mar 08, 2015 3:21 pm

Ken, 716B is a 9E sent to Bond, could have been for their 3 wheeler car, but more likely for a Bond scooter either a P2 or P4 both of which used the 9E engine, these were 4 speed foot change with a Siba dynastart and fan cooling ( the P3 used the 150cc engine)

piston size

Post  piston 197 on Sun Mar 08, 2015 3:50 pm

Not a lot of difference between the 150 and the 197cc 57mm and 59mm, it could have a 250cc top end on it then the piston would be 66mm ?
148 cc is 57mm bore x 68 stroke
197cc is 59mm x 72mm
250cc is 66mm x 72mm

9E engine

Post  kerabo on Sun Mar 08, 2015 4:03 pm

John.

Well done.

I had just listed this on Ebay but will lift the price now as I wanted a 250 hear and Barrel for my trials bike. Its 67mm at +40.
Still would like to move the rest of the engine but need those parts.
Will that fit my 9E crankcases?

Regards Ken

250cc barrel

Post  piston 197 on Sun Mar 08, 2015 4:10 pm

The 250cc barrel came in two lengths measured from base to head gasket surface , the 31A and 33 A engines use the 9E , 5 1/4" rod, the 32,34,35,36,37A are a 1/4" longer and use the 5 1/2" rod,
so the 250cc barrel will fit the 9E cases, but correct rod length has to be used with correct barrel.
So in short it will fit on, but may or may not work with your rod length, if the piston finishes 1/4" short of the top you have a short rod and a long barrel, if it comes out of the top of the cylinder, you have the long rod and the short barrel !

Thanks for that Either way I don't care if it sells .
Been sitting with that in my garage for years while searching for a 250 Villiers head barrel and Piston.

5 inch hub

Post  piston 197 on Sun Mar 08, 2015 4:19 pm

Ken, may have a hub, will have a look, always easier to send with no rim anyway, do you need everything, brake plate, shoes, spindle, nuts, sprocket, speedo drive, or just a hub ? might not have everything but may have just hub and spindle

Spares

Post  kerabo on Sun Mar 08, 2015 5:52 pm

Yes John
Need complete hub. I have a spare ACRONT alloy rim and what to make a spare wheel with alternative gearing for my Trials Bike. I have a 6" wheel complete now on ebay but have found out its wider and the chain don't line up.

John

I just had a look at my receipts from my engine rebuild and my crank is marked 32A.
Does that help with the con rod length or does it depend on the barrel.
