part numbers?

Post  jontyknott on Fri Mar 06, 2015 12:53 pm

I'm curious about some numbers stamped on the flywheel of my 2T.(950A) The numbers are R138 10/63 on the dia. and M49 in a circle that is probably an inspection stamp. The 10/63 seems a date but is too late for the engine. Any ideas?

numbers

R = rotor
138 type of rotor ( flywheel)
10/63 is the date flywheel was manufactured ( not necessarily original to engine)
The corresponding stator number to the R138 flywheel is usually on the flywheel as well and begins A***
the circled M49 is almost certainly an inspection stamp as you suggest.

parts numbers

Hi, the engine number 950A started life fitted to a Ambassador Supreme twin. The numbers on the flywheel R138 is the part number and is correct for the Villiers 2T as shown in the parts book. Other than that I can confirm what JH has put above. Mike

not necessarily Ambassador

Post  piston 197 on Fri Mar 06, 2015 2:05 pm

950A was a common spec 2T engine and was fitted to
Ambassador,
Cotton
Dayton cycles ( Albatross scooters)
Greeves
Panther
Sun
It was listed as in production from 1956 to 1968, although I doubt many were built much after 1964 as the 4T was well established then
