Rear brake pedal for 1946 Merlin

Post  onedayitwillrun on Mon Aug 11, 2014 11:51 am

Hi all,
I wonder if anyone knows of a rear brake pedal for a 1946 Merlin that might be bought? It has a square cutout at the end that mates with the cross shaft.
Many thanks.
Chris.

rear brakepedal for 1946 merlin

Hi Chris this is a long shot but if you go on ebay (spares for bsa c11) I have seen brake pedals for sale while looking for parts for my c11 and they have the square hole to fit the cross shaft as I say a long shot but worth a try. Tony. Wink

Francis barnett 1946 Merlin 51 rear brake pedal

Post  onedayitwillrun on Sun Aug 17, 2014 8:26 am

Good morning and thanks for taking the time and trouble to help me.

The picture you posted looks very similar but lacks an inward return behind the square cutout which appears to be the mounting for an adjusting bolt to set the pedal travel.

I have had a look on the web this morning and have found a YouTube video that shows this in reasonable detail.

I've not done this before so I hope it works!

It may be that your lever may be able to be modified to do the the job though......

Merlin brake lever and inlet manifold.

Post  onedayitwillrun on Sun Aug 17, 2014 10:24 am

Hi Mark

Many thanks for your generosity. Another bit of a very big jigsaw falls into place.

I think the biggest problem now will be the lack of the swan neck inlet manifold. This has obviously been missing long before I got hold of this project since somebody had modified another cast iron inlet sticking straight out under the the left hand exhaust port.

I'll see if I can PM you with my address details....

Chris.
