Concentric Carb on Villiers

Post  woodenhead on Tue May 13, 2014 3:51 pm

Hi
A friend of mine has just turned up on a James with a 6E engine fitted with a Concentric 1.5

The only thing is we cannot find any instructions on what the lever does and where it should be for normal running and starting etc. The bike starts and runs but it could be better.
Anybody any idea what the lever does
Regards

1.5 concentric

My guess would be it is the choke or more correctly starting jet lever. Down to start and up for normal running.

Yes can confirm, this is the choke/cold start lever, raise centre plunger for starting and close/lower for running make sure with this type of carb a tick over is set, if the throttle closes completely on overrun, with throttle closed going down hill will starve the feed and could cause seizure, not a problem on a trials bike, but could be a problem on a road bike.
