Front brake arm wanted

Post  falcone on Tue Dec 10, 2013 9:17 am

I am looking for a front brake arm for my Falcon 58. Piston 197 has kindly provided me with a brake plate and cam, but I dont have the arm. As far as I know it should be 2 1/2" from the centre of the cam to the centre of the hole for the clevis pin. I am told that it has two holes to give a choice of leverage, although I don't know if the secont hole is at a greater or lesser distance than 2 1/2".
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Marcus

Hiya Marcus the brake lever on my 58 has only one hole for the clevis to be fitted but it is 2 1/2" centre to centre . If no-one is able to supply one for you I will have a look through all my odds and sods to see if I have another one but it wont be until the w/end .let me know via this forum how you get on. rgds Roy

The 3 inch one appears to be off the 6 inch type front brake.

My lever has a 2nd hole inboard of the 2 1/2 inch one. Not so sure it is the correct one, but nice to have a choice I suppose.

Front brake arm wanted

Thanks for the info Jack, the 3" one definitely looks too long on my brake.
On a related suject, has anyone tried removing part of the end of the trailing shoe in order to improve braking performance? I have not yet tried the brakes on my Falcon, so I don't know how good they are, but if they are like most brakes of the era, the answer is probably not very! The idea of the mod is that because the leading shoe wears more quickly than the trailing one, after a while the leading shoe becomes less effective because as the less worn trailing shoe contacts the drum, it prevents more force being applied to the leading one. I have seen this discussed at length on other forums, with apparently good results.

Cheers

Dear Roy

Never mind, thanks for looking, it is much appreciated. I will keep my eyes open and in the meantime I will try and modify the over long one that I have.

Cheers
