Falcon 58 front brake arm

Post  falcone on Mon Dec 02, 2013 1:40 pm

My Falcon 58 seems to have the wrong operating arm fitted to the front brake - the cable comes out of the stop at quite an angle. Can anyone advise me how long it should be (centre to centre)? Also what type of fitting should it have - is it a clevis with a pin going through the arm?
Thanks
Marcus

Here is a photo (hopefully) of the arm - it looks too long to me.

Hmm. Mine has two holes in it. Better leverage on the outer hole, but it don't look too severely out. What is the length of the arm from centre of cam to centre of clevis hole?

Falcon 58 front brake arm

Post  falcone on Tue Dec 03, 2013 9:53 am

Hi Jack

I measured it and it is 3", which is the same as on a couple of other later backplates I have, so maybe it is fine. Would you be able to measure one of yours?
Thanks

Mine measures two & one half inches. Half inch shorter & inline OK.
Your brake plate does look a little bent where the adjuster mounts. Owner mod to improve leverage?

Falcon 58 front brake arm

Thanks Jack,
Further investigation reveals lots of play in the cam pivot - it's funny how you think you are getting near to getting it on the road and more problems come out of the woodwork! I think I will look for the correct arm, and sort out the play as well.
Cheers
