Cruiser 250cc manual.

Post  Andy in Beds on Wed Apr 04, 2012 5:55 pm

Hi Everyone.
I'm restoring a 1963 250cc Cruiser with a 4T engine.
I have a book by J.H. Goddard which covers numerous models but it doesn't cover the 4T powered Cruiser, as it it was printed somewhat earlier.
What I need is a manual (downloadable or printed) which covers this bike.
What I really need as a minimum is an exploded view of the frame components and the layout of these.
Thre are exploded views of frame layouts in the Goddard book but as I said above, it's not new enough.
I also need a decnt exploded view of the front forks and wheels.
Can anyone help me please??
Thanks in advance.
Andy.

Cruiser 89 with 4T engine - documentation

Post  FB vincent on Thu Apr 05, 2012 8:19 am

I have never seen any FB documentation specific to the later 4T engined machines; I guess that the sands of time were running out for FB/James by 1963 so they never printed anything about the later version. I don't think any road tests were published, either. Villiers 4T documentation is available. The FBOC Librarian can provide anything that was published.

Cruiser 89

Andy I am also restoring an 89 and I think you will find the Frame and metal parts are the same as an 80.
The 4T engine is covered in a seperate manual which is available from the club.

The centre stand on the Cruiser 89 is different to that on the 80, also the footbrake pedal and headlamp shell. The first Cruiser 80's from the 1950's also had an earlier pattern front mudguard and petrol tank filler arrangement. Sandy Ross

Cruiser 89

Andy
Sandy is correct, the Cruiser 80 has the double lift stand the 89 is single lift.
The forks look the same in my 80/89 manuals, the early stuff sandy refers to I dont think applies to a 1963 model so the tank will be the same as the 80 the headlight is switch on the right amp meter on the left.

I have a picture of the 89 frame parts but it does not show the Mudguards
if it is any good to you.??
