Cruiser Petrol Tank - Police spec?

Cruiser Petrol Tank - Police spec?

Post  fulmar88 on Sat Mar 03, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi all, Just in case anyone is looking for one I think the fuel tank listed on ebay as a Francis Barnet tank(with only one T) is a Police spec one off a Cruiser. I assume the lower position of the filler is to accomodate the radio?. Others will know for sure but didn't want anyone to miss out.

Steve.

My Cruiser 89 was ex police with this design of tank, but I changed it for the standard specification since the relocated filler reduced the amount of fuel that the tank would hold. Most of the later Cruiser 89's sold to the police were in black and white, so I suspect that the green tank for sale on ebay was for an AMC engined cruiser. I know that North Yorks and Norfolk police owned Cruiser 89's, and there is an early photo of Cruiser 80's with Herts Constabularly at Hatfield police station (fortunately W. Waters, FB dealers, were located a few yards along the road so could presumably keep them going!). Does anyone know of other police forces with late FB's? Sandy Ross
