What's in your FB toolbox?

Post  7VEN on Mon Feb 13, 2012 10:23 pm

Well, patience has paid off and i'm now the proud owner of not 1 but two Merlin toolboxes. Very Happy
Question is what do you have in yours, what was in them out of the factory and is there anything specific that you've found that's handy to have in there?
Regards
Peter

From the Instruction manual parts list.

Hi Peter. The manual lists it as a tool roll (Part number 3840 if it helps)made up as follows.
Pouch, Tube spanner and tommy bar (i presume this is is for the wheel nuts), Pliers, Open end spanners 1/4 + 5/16ths and 1/8 + 3/16ths, screwdriver, Tyre lever, cone spanner, sparking plug spanner, contact-breaker point spanner and a grease gun.
There are other tools listed as not included in tool roll.
Chain rivit extractor, Hammer tight spanner for magneto, exhaust pipe nut C spanner (this seems to be the only tool different to the falcon) , Tire pressure gauge and tire inflater (i think they mean the hand pump) Good luck finding one intact.

Thanks Chaps,
Not going to even try to hunt one of those down unless someone on here happens to have one/some Villiers/FB tools that they want to sell me. Laughing

You wanted tools!

Post  bessybarnett on Tue Feb 14, 2012 3:26 pm

Sorry I couldn’t help myself, I am a bit of a nutter when it comes to old tools. I am sure I am not the only one on this site. After all they are always nice to have, even though most of them would only fit in my rucksack and not in my Falcon toolbox! A lot of these tools came from when I was a lad! Some from my Dad (a Lincoln Ruston's Diesel engineer), and some I picked up on Ebay over a 3-4 year period.

Look out for stuff at shows, sometimes you can find some good period tyre pumps to fit your bike. Luckily mine came with my Falcon. The tool roll is an Ex-MOD new old stock (could do with washing to age it a bit). Fortunately this one was cheap, around £5. Take your time, they are always coming up. Don't be pushed into paying any more than about tenner. There is always stiff competition for old original tool rolls especially if they are full of old tools!

Best of luck hunting. I love it, its good fun especially if you manage to secure a bargain or two. Very Happy

Pete

Nice work Pete!
An exccellent selection of tools there
Just the sort of selection I hope to amass given time.
I don't get to nearly enough shows unfortunately. I do seem to spend the majority of my weekend at childrens dance lessons/swimming lessons/birthday parties. Must remember to look after my own interests! What a Face

Post  kerabo on Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:05 pm

My toolbox is a back box with segments like a milk crate.

WD40
2 stroke oil and a measure.
Spark plug.
Tyre sealant
Test lamp
Reflective waistcoat
Rags
Small adjustable
Small W spanners
Universal screwdriver
Plug socket and ratchet.
Few bulbs
Think thats about it
