Spinal Injuries Association Events 2012

Post  mattb31daytona on Tue Nov 08, 2011 1:21 am

Dear Fellow members,

Earlier this year I had the privilege of taking part in the very first Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) ride out to the Ace Cafe from their Headquarters building at Milton Keynes. Included in the ride down to the Ace Cafe were several paraplegic riders with adapted wheelchair friendly trikes, quad bikes , scooters and others on both modern and classic machines. Arrival at the Ace on a Friday night caused quite a stir and a remarkable response by everyone all of whom greatly admired the tenacity and determination shown by those with spinal injuries (some as a result of motorcycling accidents) to "keep riding".

As a result of this event I and a number of my friends have been helping Elizabeth Wright, the SIA Community Development Co-ordinator to plan some further events for 2012 and think these may be of interest.

The 2012 Ride to the Ace Cafe event will take place on Sunday 20th May, and whilst the organised ride will be leaving Milton Keynes at 1pm, we hope that as many people as possible will attend the Ace from whatever direction and support this SIA event, where in addition to being able to meet some inspiring people and look at some great machines we also hope to have a couple of Mr Talen Skeels Piggins unique fully adapted racing bikes and information on just how riders that have suffered severe spinal injuries and have no use of their lower limbs are actually getting back on racing bikes and taking part in track days Ė seeing is believing!

We are also planning a Classic Bie Show to be held at the SIA headquarters at Milton Keynes in August 2012 (date will be confirmed) and a British Summer Time Challenge Ride where individuals or groups elect to visit a number of controls in 24 / 36 hours in order to achieve a Bronze, Silver or Gold Challenge Award.

Please donít hesitate to contact Elizabeth or send me a p.m. for further information.
