New owner of a box of bits cruiser 80

Post  fatmen4 on Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:58 pm

Evening ,
I have become the proud owner of a cruiser 80 ,Albeit completely broken down, and I hope complete .All apart from the seat .
From what i know , the bike was broken down around 22years ago .
I am looking for some assistance .
How do I find out the year ( is there a simple way )
Once I find out the year , where would i find a manual .
Listing the parts and construction of said bike , including engine .
No doubt any parts required will be very hard to come by , but i would be hoping that current members would know where to find them , or at least similar ones , which will do the job .

I would welcome any assistance and advice .

cheers Fatmen4

model year

Post  piston 197 on Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:41 pm

Post your frame number on here and i can tell you the year, they started YC in 1957,then ZC,AC,BC etc following years for the cruiser 80 year of manufacture ran sept to august so a 1960 model could have been made in 1959,when you come to register it ,i am the clubs DVLA approved dating officer,JH

bike information

Can't make the serial number out on the frame , I assume it's the markings on the front of the main frame ,covered in paint .

regetration of bike NDC 579 , last tax 1972
gearbaox number 041252

is this enough , or should i clean paint away ?

cheers

Yes you will need to remove the paint from the headstock, John will need to be able to see the numbers when it comes to re-registering it and you’ll have to take photographs to the dvla office aswell. I dont think the gearbox number tells you much but the engine number is on the front of the crankcase near the front mounting.

Further to the above post i agree BC relates to a 1960 mode cruiser 80 manufactured between sept 1959 and august 1960,the W after the number relates to white paintwork ,so the bike was originally two tone green and white,JH

parts list

Post  fatmen4 on Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:43 am

JH
I have looked everywhere and can only find a parts book dated 58 / 59
is this the correct one ?
Or do you know where i will find the correct one .
Unless there is a member who could copy one ?

I presume you will have a full list of owners / bikes

Cheers M

manual

Post  piston 197 on Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:23 am

The manual from 58/9 will do fine for a 60 model,if there is any difference it will only be the fitment of the front wheel, earlier models had a fixed front spindle with nuts at both ends, and the later model had a pull out spindle with a nut at one end, other than that all will be the same ,JH
